Pre-Inspection Truck Cleaning: A Practical Checklist
A clean truck doesn't pass an inspection on its own — but a dirty one makes problems harder to find and the whole unit look poorly maintained. Cleaning before an inspection helps you catch issues first and presents the truck the way you want it presented.
Why cleanliness helps
Grime hides cracks, leaks, worn air lines, and frame corrosion. Wash the truck and those issues become visible — to you before the inspector, so you can fix them. A clean truck also signals an operation that maintains its equipment, which sets the tone.
Focus on the undercarriage and frame
This is where inspectors look and where dirt hides the most. A hot-water flush of the frame, undercarriage, and suspension area clears caked grime so leaks and corrosion show clearly.
Lights, reflectors, and plates
Dirty lights and reflectors are an easy, avoidable flag. Clean every lamp, reflector, and the plates so they're clearly visible and functional.
Do it a day ahead
Wash before, not the morning of, so you have time to act on anything the clean truck reveals. A pre-inspection wash is about finding problems early, not just looking good.
