How to Prep Your RV for Storage in BC's Wet Climate
In BC, the months an RV spends in storage are when most of the damage happens — wet weather, no airflow, and dirt left on the surfaces breed mold, streaks, and odors. A proper clean and prep before storage saves you a much bigger job in spring.
Clean the exterior before it sits
Dirt, bugs, and tree sap left on the fiberglass over months will stain and oxidize. Wash the RV top to bottom, treat any black streaks, and ideally apply a wax or sealant so water sheets off through the wet season instead of soaking in.
Deep-clean the interior
Any food residue, crumbs, or moisture left inside is an invitation for mold and pests. Empty and wipe down the kitchen and bathroom, vacuum thoroughly, and clean upholstery. A closed-up RV concentrates whatever you leave behind.
Control moisture and odor
BC's damp air is the enemy in storage. Moisture absorbers help, but the bigger factor is starting clean and dry — a deodorizing treatment before you close it up keeps the musty smell from setting into the fabrics and surfaces over the winter.
Check the seals
Inspect roof, window, and door seals before storage. A failing seal lets water in exactly when the RV is sitting unattended for months, and that's how you get hidden water damage and interior mold.
